| Title: A Pair of Penguins Species: Spheniscus demersus, African penguin Medium: Charcoal, Graphite Date Completed: 2009

The Story: I had the opportunity a few months ago to take my daughter to the New England Aquarium. Of course, I couldn't go without my camera. African penguins are one of the three penguin species there. I decided the exhibit setting they were in just wouldn't cut it in my drawing, so I put them out on a rocky South African shore.
About the African Penguin: African penguins, also called jackass penguins (for the sound they make) and black-footed penguins, are the only species of penguin that breeds in Africa. They are a monogamous, fish-eating bird that is listed as a "vulnerable" species. Find out more in the Wikipedia article.

A Pair of Penguins is framed with an off-white acid-free mat with a black core and concave soft black and white wooden frame. The glass is non-glare and UV-protected, and a wire for hanging is installed.
